Carved out of the Lea Valley by river infrastructure the Green provides a valuable open space in the area. London has too few new parks, so Churchman was delighted to have the opportunity to play a part in establishing the first part of the visionary Lea River Park.

Providing a harmonious combination of recreation, heritage and ecology was the key to unlocking the full potential of Three Mills Green to express its edges. The scheme was highly commended in 2012 Landscape Institute Awards and provides the first part of the wider Lea River Park strategy.

The heart of the park consists of an open flexible recreation space framed by a crescent of sculpted earthwork. This allows for a variety of uses including sports, events, performances and local festivals and naturally allows viewing from the earthwork. Embracing the back of the crescent is a sequence of linked natural play spaces and playgrounds, a wilderness that contrasts with the manicured grass disc and invites playful occupation.
