Churchman Landscape Architects are responsible for the recently completed public realm scheme associated with the new Sammy Ofer Wing for the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.

The £35M development provides the National Maritime Museum with a new archive and entrance, relocating the main point of access so that visitors to Greenwich can enter the building from Greenwich Park. Churchman’s hard and soft landscape design, including water features, provides the highlight and has established a much loved public space.

The Sammy Ofer Wing is located within a highly sensitive World Heritage Site and immediately adjacent to the finest collections of C17th / C18th architecture in the UK. Achieving the right balance between the historic fabric and a contemporary intervention was always going to be challenging but has been achieved with great sensitivity.
