The client commissioned Stanton Williams to design their house, which was placed on a ridge with panoramic views.
We maintained the open aspect establishing a carpet of grasses and wild flower meadows which sweep up to the house, providing a dramatic display during each summer. Existing woodland was extended to provide shelter from the easterly winds. The rolling ground plane is interrupted by two pure spaces; a rectangular secret garden and an elliptical hollow which is sunk into the hillside eliminating outward views and thereby capturing views of the sky in the style of James Turrell’s Roden Crater.
